Colonels Wayne & Deborah Bungay
Territorial Commanders – Tanzania

Colonels Wayne and Deborah Bungay were born and raised in eastern Canada on the island of Newfoundland. Together they entered the College for Officer Training (CFOT) in 1982 as part of the ‘Servants of God’ session of cadets and were commissioned in 1984.


Colonels Bungay have served as Officers for 35 years, including 20 years as Corps Officers, CFOT Personnel Officers for two years, reinforcement Officers in the Caribbean Territory for six years, and three Divisional appointments, including four years as Divisional Leaders in Canada, and three years as Divisional Leaders in the United Kingdom.


Colonels Wayne and Deborah have been married for 38 years and have three children and six grandchildren; all who live in Canada.  Colonel Deborah likes to spend time with her children and grandchildren via Facetime along with enjoying hand crafts, and gardening.  When Colonel Wayne is not absorbed in work and ministry, he loves to read, and train for full and half marathons, having completed the 2017 London Marathon and the 2018 Kilimanjaro Marathon, both as fund raisers for TSA mission.  Deborah has acquired a BA (honors) in Pastoral Care with Psychology with Havering College, United Kingdom.  Wayne has competed a BA in Religious Studies with the University of Waterloo, Canada and is currently engaged in an Executive MBA in Global Leadership with the University of Fredericton, Canada.


Colonels Bungay have a strong passion for international service and, along with serving in the Caribbean Territory and the United Kingdom Territory, have traveled to Haiti on two occasions to support The Salvation Army’s mission work and Officer training and development.


The Colonels are humbled and honored to have been appointed to Tanzania Territory and view this as an opportunity to fulfill the Lord’s will for The Salvation Army in this wonderful land with the support of their Territorial team, Officers, and Salvationists.
